The Municipality of Drama, as public authority, aspires to play an active and leading role as well as to aid in its citizens personal problems. In the context of intervention the Office of Social Services is constantly attempting to detect social problems and at the same time to create such environmental conditions whereby to provide the best services to its citizens. In order to achieve its goals the Office provides services which are directed to all the citizens of the Municipality of Drama.

The Office of Social Services of the Municipality of Drama was created in 1996 and is housed in the center of the city for easy access by all its citizens who wish to be informed and be kept updated about all topics dealing with personal help concerning whatever problem someone may have. The Office faces daily problems by applying social work methods with individuals, families and society and is called upon to serve issues depending upon each individual’s needs and problems.

The Social Workers use techniques and skills which aim to provide help and by having as a motto the individuality of each person, a stand of never criticizing, acceptance and most importantly, discretion. They intervene by offering emotional and psychological support and encouragement to individuals who face series problems which they are unable to overcome. The main aim of the Office is to find the best possible solution in order to overcome the existing difficulty. 

Services which are provided: 

  Emotional and advisory support

 The making of suggestions to the City Council regarding the providing of monetary support to individual who face extraordinary needs (fire, flood, etc.)

 Provides food and clothes to individual who face economic problems

 Collaborates and refers cases, when needed, to other services for the most effective treatment of the needs of the served.

 Provides an organized network of volunteers who alternatively help to cover the needs which arise. (ex. Support to lonely individuals who are in hospital)

 Organizes – implements social events (Meetings, speeches, etc.)

 Works together with all local clubs which deal with people who face certain difficulties

 Implements the programs “Help at Home” and “Social Care Unit”, Center for Creative Activity for Children with a Handicap – KDAP – MEA, “Our Smile”, “Social-Medical Center|”

 Serves in the context for Experience Practice for university students from the Social Management Department of the Democritus University of Tracey
